Beginner Guide No Download Multiplayer Getaway Rules

Bhabhi Thulla is a multiplayer shedding card game where every player is trying to get rid of their cards. The last player still holding cards is the loser, called the Bhabhi. The game is also known as Bhabhi card game or Getaway in some rule references and playing groups.

This online version keeps the table setup simple: open the game, create or join a room, and play directly in the browser. You do not need to shuffle, deal, or install anything. The main skill is learning when to follow suit, when a Thulla happens, and how to avoid being trapped with the lead near the end.

Quick Setup

The Goal

Your goal is to "get away" by playing all your cards. Players who empty their hands safely leave the round and cannot lose. The final player left with cards is the Bhabhi. There is no point total required for a single round, although many groups track how many times each player loses across several games.

The important mindset: you are not trying to win every trick. You are trying to empty your hand without being forced to pick up piles of cards.

Step-by-Step Rules

  1. Deal the cards. All cards are dealt as evenly as possible. In the browser, this is automatic, so players can focus on decisions instead of setup.
  2. Start with the Ace of Spades. The player with A of Spades leads it to begin the first trick. Other players respond in turn.
  3. Follow the led suit if you can. If hearts are led and you have hearts, you must play a heart. You can choose which heart to play.
  4. Play Thulla when you cannot follow suit. If you have no card in the led suit, you may play any card from another suit. That off-suit card is the Thulla.
  5. Resolve the trick. If everyone follows suit, the cards are discarded and the highest card of the led suit leads next. If a Thulla is played, the trick stops and the highest card of the led suit picks up the trick cards.
  6. Escape when your hand is empty. Once you play your final card and do not need to keep leading, you are safe. The round continues until only one player has cards.
Ace of spades starts the first trick Nine of spades follows suit Queen of spades follows suit Seven of diamonds played as Thulla
Example: spades are led. A diamond can only appear when that player has no spades, so the diamond is Thulla and the highest spade picks up the trick.

Core Turn Rules

Follow suit

If you have the led suit, you must play that suit. You cannot choose Thulla while holding a legal card.

Highest led suit matters

Only cards in the original led suit compete for control or pickup responsibility.

Thulla stops the trick

Once an off-suit card is played by someone who cannot follow, later players do not add cards.

Last cards need care

A low final card is often easier to escape with than a high card that wins the lead.

What Is a Thulla?

A Thulla is an off-suit card played because the player has none of the led suit. For example, if clubs are led and you have no clubs, you can play any heart, diamond, or spade. The moment that card appears, the trick stops. The player who played the highest club must pick up the cards from that trick and add them to their hand.

This rule is what makes Bhabhi Thulla different from many simple trick-taking games. A strong card is not always safe. If you lead the ace of clubs and another player is out of clubs, you may be forced to collect cards instead of getting closer to escape.

How to Win Online

To win, empty your hand before the other players. In practice, that means balancing speed with safety. You want to shed cards, but not by blindly winning every trick. Watch which suits other players cannot follow, keep a flexible low card for the end, and avoid leading suits that are already broken around the table.

Common Beginner Mistakes

Playing With Friends

To play with friends, create a private room and share the room code. Wait until everyone has joined before starting. Voice chat is optional, but it helps new players because someone can explain why a Thulla caused a pickup after each trick. On phones, use the card view that makes your hand easiest to scan before each turn.

If one friend is new, start with a slower practice round. Ask everyone to say the led suit out loud for the first few tricks. After one or two rounds, most players understand the core rhythm: follow suit, watch for Thulla, avoid the final-card trap.

For the smoothest first session, play one open practice round before keeping score. Let players ask why a card was legal, which suit was led, and who had to pick up after Thulla.
